Early-Morning Fire Damages Church

Firefighters initially deemed the fire suspicious, but are now saying it appears accidental.

Firefighters responded to a fire early Thursday morning at the , located at 8840 East Stockton Blvd.

The received a call of a fire at 3:46 a.m. and arrived to find one of the portable buildings of the church on fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire in about 15 minutes without any incident.

No one was injured in the fire.

Fire Chief Tracy Hansen said investigators initially thought the fire was suspicious because windows in the building were broken. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the broken windows were caused by the fire.

“They initially suspected it may be suspicious because of the broken windows,” Hansen said. “They are now leaning toward accidental.”

The 40X40 building housed the church’s library. Damages are estimated at $100,000.

Investigators are still investigating the scene and have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
