Elk Grove Man Was Stabbed After Cowboys Jersey Argument, Police Say

The stabbing outside a San Francisco 49ers game that sent an Elk Grove man to the hospital began with an argument because he was wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey, police said Tuesday.

The 27-year-old victim was walking to Sunday's game at Candlestick Park with a group of friends when two men approached and argued with him around 1:35 p.m., San Francisco Police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

The Elk Grove man was wearing a Cowboys jersey, which apparently angered the two suspects, who were 49ers fans, Andraychak said. The 49ers were playing the New York Giants that day.

The argument developed into a fight that was broken up by bystanders, the sergeant said.

The suspects left and returned several minutes later, stabbing the victim, Andraychak said.

The victim's injuries were initially said to be life-threatening, but now are not, Andraychak said.

The suspects were arrested and have been identified as 22-year-old Kristopher Viana and 30-year-old Alexandro F. Arguelles, both San Francisco residents. Viana is the one who stabbed the victim, Andraychak said.

Both have been booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy, and Viana is charged with possessing the weapon. Andraychak said Tuesday he was waiting for the OK to release booking photos of the men.

"Inspectors did present the case to the DA yesterday for formal charges," he said.

A representative from the San Francisco District Attorney's office did not return a call seeking more information.
