Elk Grove Sobriety Checkpoint Planned for Friday Night
The Elk Grove Police Department will be looking for drunk drivers this weekend.

Authorities will be on the lookout for impaired drivers or those without a license this weekend, according to a press release.
The is planning a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city on Friday evening. The full press release follows:
ELK GROVE, CA – The Elk Grove Police Department will be conducting a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint within the City of Elk Grove on August 17, 2012 from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways. Educational materials covering the dangers of driving under the influence will also be handed out to motorists. The public is encouraged to call the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 714-5111 (emergency line) or 911 if they observe a suspected impaired driver.
Funding for the sobriety checkpoint is provided through a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant that was made available by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, targeting those who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver.
