Elk Grove Unified Board Of Education Approves Upcoming School Year Calendars
New school year calendar changes emphasize learning and keep spring break consistently in the middle of the spring semester.
ELK GROVE, Calif. – November 14, 2019 – The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) Board of Education voted unanimously on November 12, 2019 to approve the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school year calendars. The school district negotiated the two school year calendars with the Elk Grove Educators Association (EGEA), as stipulated in the EGUSD/EGEA collective bargaining agreement. Understanding the impact a school year may have on its key stakeholders, the school district strives to provide students, families, staff and community members with as much notice of future school calendars as possible for future planning purposes.
The approved two school year calendars show an adjustment to the traditional spring break, now making that time off consistent from year to year by being placed in the middle of the spring semester instead of moving forward and back each year. Prior to approval, the school calendars were reviewed by the District’s calendar committee, which includes representatives of the Transportation, Food & Nutrition Services, Special Education, PreK – 6 Education, Secondary Education and Human Resources departments as well as representatives from the EGEA, AFSCME and CSEA bargaining units.
