Sure, you’ve been to ordinary wine and beer tasting events. But have you been to one featuring 7 top-rated restaurateurs, a Celebrity Chef Challenge featuring local fish from Passmore Ranch and a “guess the weight of the stallion” contest with a cash prize of over $500—with the stallion prancing around in an indoor horseback riding arena?
TrailFest is sponsored by the Central Valley Rails to Trails Foundation, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization based in the Central Valley. TrailFest takes place each year in South Sacramento County and serves to bring attention to the proposed 27-mile Central Valley Rail Trail project supported by the Foundation. Each year, TrailFest raises funds to support the administrative costs of the Foundation, and it benefits a local organization or charity.
Over the years, proceeds from TrailFest have sent kids to science camp, supported the Firefighter's Burn Institute, and reduced the waiting list at Project R.I.D.E.'s therapeutic riding program for kids and adults with special needs. TrailFest 2011 will again benefit Project R.I.D.E., and this year it will be held at their impressive facility right here in Elk Grove.
