Food Truck Mania Hits Elk Grove

Mobile-food guru SactoMoFo organized a food truck event in Elk Grove on Thursday.

Food trucks are a hot new trend that Elk Grove is no longer missing. Four food trucks were visited Elk Grove Thursday, giving residents a different kind of food experience.

SactoMoFo, a food festival organizer, brought Elk Grove its first mobile food truck experience with food trucks, live music and ample seating.

“Every event will have sort of the same setup,” SactoMoFo coordinator Paul Somerhausen said. “By next month we are hoping for better weather.”

Overall, Somerhausen said he was happy with the day’s turnout, given that it was their first time in Elk Grove, they only had a few days to organize it and had somewhat gloomy weather.

The event brought four popular food truck vendors in the Sacramento region, including Krush Burger (formerly Mini Burger), Drewski’s Hotrod, Coast to Coast Sandwiches and Chandos Tacos.

Somerhausen said he is planning on adding a dessert truck to the event once the weather is nicer. He also said he will try to rotate some of the food trucks to add more variety for customers.

Food Truck Mania is a Thursday evening food-eating event SactoMoFo is trying to bring to the “four corners” of the Sacramento area, now including Elk Grove in its event.

The event took place in the parking lot, located at 9340 East Stockton Blvd. Coordinating the event also required approval from the City of Elk Grove.

“We are very happy that both the City and community of Elk Grove have been supportive and we will reward them by bringing a different kind of food experience to their area,” Somerhausen said. “We want to repay their kindness.”

Elk Grove resident Dustin Knott said it was his first time at a mobile truck event and that he really enjoyed the experience.

“It’s a different environment than the same old restaurant,” Knott said. “The options are there and you can pick what you want.”

Knott said he liked having something different and it was something new to do in the area.

Jason Visesratana said he heard about the event from Twitter and came from South Sacramento just for the event. He has not been to a Food Truck Mania event in other parts of the Sacramento region, but said that he has had food from the mobile food trucks there before.

Enjoying his mini burgers from Krush Burger, Visesratana said he loved the event, liked the choices and liked that it was close to home.

“It’s good food and I would come regularly,” he said. “I’m excited that it is in Elk Grove now.”

The next Elk Grove Food Truck Mania Event will be on June 7. SactoMoFo can be found on Twitter under @SactoMoFo and on facebook here.
