Franklin Theatre Company Ventures "Into the Woods"

Franklin High School's Theatre Company produces Sondheim's Into the Woods this March - staged entirely in the round!

This March, Franklin Theatre Company will present their 13th annual main-stage musical, Into the Woods, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine, Original Direction on Broadway by James Lapine, and Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. The musical debuted on Broadway in 1987 and ran for 764 performances, garnering many awards and spawning numerous national tours and revivals. It remains one of the American Theatre’s best loved musicals to produce.

The main characters come from classic fairytales: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood. They are tied together by a more original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family. While everyone is familiar with the traditional fairytale ending of “happily ever after,” this musical follows these stories even further to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. Franklin Theatre Company’s production is staged entirely in the round, with audiences on all four sides of the stage as characters wander in and out of the woods. Magic, illusions, imagination, and special effects abound in this unique re-telling of the original Broadway tale, brought to life from the imagination of a young child who is on a journey of his own.

Performances will be held in Franklin’s Black Box Theatre on March 11th at 7:00 PM, March 12th at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, March 17th at 7:00 PM, March 18th at 7:00 PM, and March 19th at 2:00 and 7:00 PM. Tickets are $12 for general admission. Tickets for children under twelve, seniors over 55, and students with ASB are $10. Special VIP tickets can be reserved in advance and include a commemorative poster, front row reserved seating, and a snack and drink at intermission for only $20. All tickets can be purchased at the concession stand, at the door, or online at http://ftc.ticketleap.com. While young audiences are welcome, this production is rated PG-13 by Musical Theatre International for some adult themes and content. Into the Woods is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. http://www.MTIshows.com
