Galt Vice Principal Arrested for Alleged Golf Course Attack

Robert E. Rappleye was arrested July 13 in Angels Camp.

Galt High School Vice Principal and Elk Grove resident Robert E. Rappleye struck a man twice with a golf club last week during an 18th-hole argument, according to Angels Camp Police.

Rappleye, 61, became annoyed that a group ahead of his group at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course was playing slowly on July 13, and argued with one of the other players, a press release from the Angels Camp Police Department stated.

The man from the other group was upset with "the language and tone of the conversation directed at his wife," and the argument turned violent, according to the department.

"According to the victim and witnesses, the first injury was sustained when the victim used his left arm in an attempt to block the golf club that Rappleye swung at him," the press release stated. "When Rappleye swung the club a second time, the victim turned away and exposed his back, and Rappleye struck him in the upper left shoulder blade. Another witness reported that he attempted to intervene but was reportedly threatened by Rappleye, who was still brandishing the golf club."

The victim was treated and released by paramedics at the golf course, while a slightly bloodied Rappleye declined medical attention, the department said.
