I Scream, You Scream

Not every Elk Grove couple has a pimped-out ice cream truck with gold rims sitting in their driveway. Jaime and Elizabeth Moreno are waiting for the weather to warm so they can get back to selling their frozen treats.

How long have you been in business?

For a year.  We go all over Sacramento, too.  Once we were requested to go to San Francisco by a family in Fair Oaks for a birthday party. The truck is from 1967. It's automatic. It's named after our 9-month-old daughter Angelica.

When will you be operational again?

At the end of February. The kids take turns going, too. We have seven children and want to teach them a good work ethic and how to earn an honest living.

Who did the graffiti art?

Some kids in Vacaville. It's good that they did the truck so that they didn't go tagging. They can do murals and not deface buildings.

What made you decide to go with that look?

Our whole idea was, "What would the kids want?" We'll paint the whole thing white again and get some local kids to redo it.

Do you have a funky horn or music to announce your arrival?

Yes, the wind broke (the horn) but the music still plays. It's a traditional ice-cream music box from Minneapolis, Minnesota -- the only place to get them in the United States.
