Interactive Map: See How Many Concealed Weapon Permit Holders Live in Your ZIP Code
Of the hundreds of concealed weapon permits issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, more than 50 went to Elk Grove residents.
More than one tenth of the over 450 people in Sacramento County authorized to carry a concealed weapon live in Elk Grove.
Elk Grove Patch, with our colleagues over at Rosemont Patch, analyzed the list of concealed weapon permits issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department as of Jan. 25. One of Elk Grove's three zip codes, 95758, came in fourth on the list of areas with the highest number of permit-holders.
Other areas with a large concentration of concealed weapon permit-holders include Carmichael, Folsom and Arden Arcade.

Concealed weapon permits became a hot topic of the 2010 sheriff's race, with all three major candidates vowing to ease the process to obtain one.
And applications for the permits are on the rise, according to the Sacramento Bee. Last year, 196 people applied to carry a concealed weapon–up from 103 in 2009. The year before that, only 22 people applied.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department issues the permits to Elk Grove residents. Local police in other jurisdictions sometimes issue their own permits.
