Elk Grove Man Convicted of Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter
Lovie James was sentenced to 23 years in prison for attempting to kill his girlfriend in her Elk Grove home in 2011.

The District Attorney announced Friday that an Elk Grove man was convicted of attempted voluntary manslaughter, felony domestic violence, elder abuse, criminal threats and vehicle theft.
, 54, was convicted for the February 2011 assault of his 69-year-old girlfriend.
Officials said James assaulted his girlfriend in her Elk Grove home, slamming her head on the tile floor, which caused a blow out orbital fracture of her right eye and bleeding on her brain.

While she was injured and on the ground, James poured gasoline on her and himself and claimed that they would both die that night.
James stole the victim’s car and took off after her nephew called 911. He was caught one week later.
