Movie Review: 'The Watch' May Be Unwatchable

Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade join forces in a neighborhood to fight off an alien invasion in "The Watch."

"The Watch" has a crippling identity problem. This movie desperately wants to be Ghostbusters, where funny actors confront supernatural happenings, but it never happens. Instead, the film settles for below-the-belt potty humor that's just not that funny.

The moview skews to a young male audience, just in case you're wondering. There is, however, only so much one can take when it comes to blasting aliens and trading jokes relating to the testicles of various species. I mean really? This is comedy?

Some will conclude that "The Watch" is destined for failure. The film had to change its title from "Neighborhood Watch" to "The Watch" after the tragic death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin at the hands of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a week before "The Watch" opens, a , making it difficult to belly laugh at jokes about gunplay, shootouts and campaigns to stop the senseless murders in our suburban communities. Plus the film is just not that good. So the flick-o-meter gives "The Watch" a two out of five.

In comedy, timing is everything and sadly, this film has no such thing.
