2 Arrested at Encinitas Checkpoint, 1 Cited for Marijuana Possession
The Labor Day weekend DUI/driver's license checkpoint was conducted on Olivenhain Road.

ENCINITAS, CA — A DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Encinitas was among four held at the start of the Labor Day weekend Friday in San Diego County.
Personnel with the North Coastal Station of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted the checkpoint from around 8:20 p.m. Friday until about 1:20 a.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of Olivenhain Road, according to sheriff's Deputy Brenda Sipley.
A total of 2,083 vehicles approached the checkpoint, 688 vehicles were directed through the primary screening area and 1,395 vehicles passed through without contact by deputies.

Twenty-three vehicles were directed to a secondary screening area for further investigation, with four drivers evaluated for being under the influence. Two drivers were arrested — one on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and one on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, Sipley said.
One driver was cited for possession of marijuana in a vehicle, 11 citations were issued for driving without a valid license and/or insurance, and three vehicles were towed.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety.
