ENCINITAS, CA — A bluff collapse spanning at least 30 feet occurred Thursday at San Elijo State Beach, according to authorities.

No one was injured in the collapse, which followed the area’s most recent of many atmospheric rivers this winter.

The beach’s north day-use parking section was closed following the incident and visitors were warned not to use the staircase to the north beach area, according to California State Parks.

“State Parks encourages all visitors to be mindful of their surroundings when visiting and keep a safe distance from the bluffs,” a representative of the parks service said in an email.

Park staff will continue to monitor and assess the area, according to authorities, who noted rockslides and cliff collapses happen without notice.
