4 Arrested During DUI Checkpoint In Encinitas
Four people were arrested during a DUI and driver's license checkpoint in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101.

ENCINITAS, CA — Four people were arrested during a DUI and driver's license checkpoint in Encinitas, authorities said.
Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's North Coastal Station conducted the checkpoint from 8 p.m. to midnight June 30 in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas.
Three motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and one motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

In addition, one driver was cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed and three other drivers were cited for other vehicle code violations, including driving with an open alcoholic beverage container. Two vehicles were towed.
In total, roughly 600 vehicles went through the checkpoint, officials said. Authorities sent 22 vehicles to secondary evaluation.

Funding for the checkpoint program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
