4 Students Recognized At Encinitas Chamber 'Rising Star' Event

The Rising Star program​ is a monthly breakfast that honors seniors from high schools in the San Dieguito Union High School District.

ENCINITAS, CA — Four Encinitas students were celebrated during the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce's March Rising Star of the Month breakfast.

One Galido from Canyon Crest Academy, Mason Ross from La Costa Canyon High School, Dirsa Hernandez Gregorio from San Dieguito Academy, and Sadaf Barekzai from Torrey Pines High School were recognized during the March 4 event at MiraCosta College's San Elijo campus.

"At the chamber, we take great pride in our commitment to education and the next generation of leaders," said Carol Knight, CEO of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce. "Through programs like Rising Star, we continue our commitment to celebrate the achievements of students who are shaping the future of the community."

The event was attended by Encinitas Mayor Bruce Ehlers, as well as representatives from federal, state and county offices.

Now in its fourth year, the Rising Star program is a monthly breakfast that honors seniors from high schools in the San Dieguito Union High School District. The program recognizes students who demonstrate character, integrity, leadership and perseverance — qualities that make them role models in their schools and community, according to the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce.

All Rising Star students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships that will be awarded at the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce's annual Salute to Education event on May 7. Since the program began, 106 students have been honored, with 17 scholarships awarded.
