"A Growing Passion" is Branching Out!

Local lifestyle TV series, “A Growing Passion,” is getting busy! The show is in production for its third season of storytelling, set to kick off in April 2015, and we continue to explore “all the ways things grow” in the world of nature, gardening, agriculture, and horticulture. “A Growing Passion’s” first two seasons focused on the San Diego area, but starting with season three, the show expands throughout region, from San Francisco to Phoenix and Tucson. As the storytelling expands, so does the reach into public television and online audiences in those areas.

 

In season three, the show explores California’s $2B citrus industry. The show will include a visit to UC Riverside’s “living citrus museum” with more than 1,000 citrus varieties. Nan and the team also visit UCR etymologists and botanists who are racing to prevent Citrus Greening Disease from destroying California’s citrus industry

In the Bay Area the team visits a nursery that sells standard and usual citrus such as the yellow-fingered Buddha’s hand citrons, small, warty-skinned Yuzus, and Australian finger limes. After a visit to San Diego’s commercial citrus growers, Nan will demonstrate the best practices for growing citrus at home.

“A Growing Passion” will delve into California’s water system to trace the path of precious water from its source to farms and gardens. Another episode will center on beneficial insects which includes a visit to an insect farm near Ventura, California, and there will be a very special episode on the celebrated horticultural history of San Diego’s historic Balboa Park.
