Elderly Woman's 'Suspicious' Injuries Under Investigation In Encinitas

ENCINITAS, CA — An investigation was underway Monday after an 85-year-old woman found unresponsive inside her Encinitas home suffered injuries medical staff believed were suspicious, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics responded Saturday to a home in the 1000 block of C Street, where they found the woman unresponsive, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Hospital staff discovered injuries they believed were suspicious and notified law enforcement, sheriff's officials said. The woman's condition declined Sunday.

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation to determine how the woman sustained her injuries. Investigators said there is no known threat to the community.
