City leaders say the project will boost safety and connectivity for drivers, walkers, and cyclists, while tying into broader rail improvements across North County and the coastal corridor.
2. Leucadia bids farewell to Paul Ecke campus as rebuild begins (thecoastnews.com) — Demolition is underway on Leucadia's Paul Ecke Central Elementary campus in Encinitas, with students temporarily shifted to El Camino Creek and Park Dale Lane while a $60 million "school in a garden" is built. The Encinitas Union School District is preserving the original 1927 schoolhouse and warns construction delays likely push reopening past August 2027.
3. Encinitas surfer Yang captures first WSL title at Virginia Beach Pro (thecoastnews.com) — Encinitas surf fans have a new hometown champion to cheer: 21-year-old local Kyan Yang just claimed his first-ever World Surf League title at the Virginia Beach Pro. Catherine Blakespear has shelved her bill requiring oil refineries to disclose cleanup plans because it lacked enough Assembly votes. She says she'll keep pushing for a cleaner energy future while acknowledging strong opposition from the oil and gas industry.
