Community Corner

Battle of the Bands for Summer Fun

LEUCADIA—
Leucadia 101 Main Street presents a community event; Battle of the Bands
for Summer Fun on May 18th. The stage is set for the young musicians of
Encinitas to compete for a spot at this year’s Summer Fun on the 101: Leucadia’s
Music Festival. This Battle of the Bands will take place on the north side of
Seaweed and Gravel (1144 N Coast Hwy 101) from noon to 4 PM.

The competition was fierce last year at Paul Ecke Auditorium
with Step Forward Lads taking the people’s choice and Chops Woodshed Academy
taking finishing first in the judge’s poll and so many other great bands
whipping the crowd into a frenzy. We’re looking forward to hearing the top
young musical talents in Encinitas again this year.

Each band that enters will have twenty minutes on stage to
impress the judges and audience. At the end of the concert, our expert panel of
judges will choose one band, and a second band will be chosen by audience vote.
These two bands will win prizes from SPY optic and the opportunity to play at
this year’s Summer Fun on the 101: Leucadia’s Music Festival being held on June
27th and 28th.

bands will be selected on a first come first serve basis. See more info at our

bike, board or train to Seaweed and Gravel (114 N Coast hwy 101). Bring a beach
chair and blanket, turn off your phone for a few hours and revel in the day.
When you get hungry, just walk to one of the many fine local eateries located
along the 101. This is event is free admission to all ages.

Our goal, and that of any Main Street Association, is to
promote economic development and play a key role in keeping our town centers
healthy and viable. Recognizing Leucadia’s historical value as one of the last
remaining old fashioned beach towns in Southern California, Leucadia 101 Main
Street promotes our area as an exciting and worthwhile place for residents,
businesses and visitors alike.  Special
events like Battle of the Bands for Summer Fun play a significant role in
achieving this goal.    For more
