Four Tips for a Healthy Happy Spring

The first official day of Spring is March 20th. The following four tips will help you with cleaning your home and your body while maximizing your health and happiness this Spring.

The first official day of Spring is March 20th.  With the arrival of Spring we get warmer days, more sunlight, and an opportunity to let go of the old while embracing the new.  The following four tips will help you with cleaning your home and your body while maximizing your health and happiness this Spring.

1. Move Your Workouts Outside

Now that temperatures are on the rise and we have more hours of daylight you can break free from the gym and rediscover your passion for hiking, biking, running, or swimming outdoors.  This way you will get fresh air and vitamin D while you exercise.  An estimated 40% of Americans are deficient in vitamin D which is important for prevention of osteoporosis, depression, and certain types of cancer.

2. Clean your Home and Your Kitchen

Research shows a clean and organized home can make us healthier, happier, and more productive!  This year, in addition to cleaning your home, take a look at cleaning up your diet by throwing away out the junk, sugary, and processed foods from your refridgerator and pantry.  Be sure to check out the local farmer's market for information on what is currently in season and fill your kitchen (and belly) with local organic produce instead.

3. Get Proactive with Your Doctor

Spring is a great time to schedule a check-up.  Even if you're feeling great, taking proative measures today can help prevent emergencies from happening later.  Ask yourself which is more expensive, treating disease or preventing it?  Natural and alternative forms of healthcare are becoming increasingly more popular as people are looking for answers to their health issues without drugs or medication.  Chiropractors and Naturopathic doctors are trained as primary care physicians and can be a great resource on your journey towards optimum health.

4. Give Your Body a Natural Detox

While many weightloss and detox programs are calorie deprivation diets in disguise, there are natural ways to reduce inflammation and eliminate toxins from the body.  The most effective cleansing programs focus on the body's filter organs (think filter in your vacuum cleaner...gross!)  including your liver, kidneys, and colon.  Cutting out alcohol, caffeine, refined sugars, processed or fast foods, and other common food sensitivites such as gluten and dairy can be a great start.  A healthy cleanse often brings people closer to their weightloss goals, but can also lower blood pressure and blood sugar, as well as increase energy and mental focus.
