
This weekend the San Elijo Lagoon has Family Discovery Days, on both Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. This is a free family event.
The lagoon is one of the largest coastal wetlands in California and a great place to connect with nature. There are 7 miles of trails at the lagoon, and since they are generally flat it is a great place to introduce young kids to hiking.

- 23 species of fishes
- 20 species of reptiles and amphibians
- 26 species of mammals
- 300 species of birds
The nature center also has some animals, including a rosy boa, inside for up and close viewing.
Family discovery days features Native American storytelling, a mock dig site and crafts. Children will be able to make clay pots. More information can be found here.
