Caregiver Arrested After Boy Found Abandoned In Encinitas Store

BREAKING: Desirae Harris, 42, of Carlsbad, was booked into Vista Jail on suspicion of felony child endangerment, sheriff's officials said.

ENCINITAS, CA – The caregiver of a child found wandering alone inside an Encinitas store has been arrested, authorities said.

Employees at the Michaels on North El Camino Real spotted the 2-year-old boy walking alone around the art supply store shortly before noon Thursday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Deputies searched the area but could not find the parents of the boy, who was identified by authorities only as Connor.

Hours after his picture was released to the public, Connor's parents were located. They were reunited with their son around 6:40 p.m. at Polinsky Children's Center in Kearny Mesa, officials said.

Connor's caregiver, Desirae Harris, 42, of Carlsbad, was taken into custody without incident and booked into Vista Jail on suspicion of felony child endangerment, according to sheriff's officials. She has since posted $100,000 bail.
