Congresswoman Susan Davis joins Girls on the Run team practice in Lemon Grove
On Monday, April 10th, Congresswoman Susan Davis joined 15 girls from Monterey Heights Elementary school at a Girls on the Run team practice
Congresswoman Susan Davis laced up her sneakers and joined about 15 girls from Monterey Heights Elementary school at one of their twice weekly Girls on the Run team practices on Monday, April 10th, as they talked about peer pressure and prepared for an upcoming 5K run.
Rep. Davis, D-San Diego, said she’s a fan of the after-school program for girls in 3rd through 8th grades because it’s teaching them skills that will last a lifetime.
“Building a strong mind and healthy body leads to a strong and healthy future,” said Rep. Davis. “It’s inspiring to see the commitment these girls have toward their health and well-being and to each other. The skills they learn now will help make them the strong and confident leaders our community will need for the future.”

Girls on the Run San Diego, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, reaches about 1200 girls throughout San Diego County each year. Each of the approximately 40 teams around the county are led by groups of volunteer coaches.
“We are incredibly excited and grateful that Congresswoman Davis recognizes the importance of our program and took the time to visit with our girls and coaches,” said Kasey MacNair, Girls on the Run San Diego’s executive director. “The Monterey Heights Elementary School team was delighted to have her join in their discussion on peer pressure, as well as the fun drills and running laps. And it was a bonus lesson for the girls to meet and talk to an elected official who’s representing their community,” MacNair said.
