SAN DIEGO, CA — Patch reader Judy Farley submitted this photo on behalf of her husband, Jim Farley.

Jim Farley captured the picture at sunset on New Year's Day at Leichtag Commons, located on the property formerly known as the Paul Ecke Ranch in Encinitas. He is CEO and president of The Leichtag Foundation.

"This lovely crimson-leafed holiday favorite is known as the St. Louis poinsettia, or the Euphorbia pulcherrima," Judy Farley explained.

"As the final rays of sunshine gently emanate through the luminescent, crimson bracts of the magnificent St. Louis poinsettia, we reflect on another year gone by, and we look forward to a brighter tomorrow."
