Special note: When Queen Elizabeth II died, she had a plan for her pets. Every owner should have a plan in case they’re no longer able to care for their pets. Even if you have a plan for someone who will care for your pets, you need a backup plan, and a backup plan to the backup plan.

Don’t just assume that a friend or family member will take your pets.

Put your plans in your will or estate plan. It needs to be in writing for your pet’s guardian to have a legal claim.

If you don’t have a will or estate plan, you can start planning for your pet by using Freewill.com to create a will. It’s free and it takes about 20 minutes.
