Time to Fall Back: Daylight Saving Time Ends Early Sunday

It's that time of year again.

Clocks in Encinitas and throughout California will be set back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Every first Sunday in November, like 47 other states, California ''falls back'' an hour when daylight saving time ends and the state moves back to Pacific Standard Time.

Safety officials are urging people to use their "extra" hour to replace batteries in smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and evacuation flashlights.

The battery-changing ritual should include checking that the device has not passed any expiration date and clearing dust from slots or sensors.
