Encinitas Names Senior Citizen Of The Year Award Winner

ENCINITAS, CA — Encinitas resident and longtime community volunteer Susan Hays has been named winner of the 2022 Senior Citizen of the Year Award, the city announced this week.

Hays has volunteered for more than 20 years in the community, according to the city. She has volunteered for the city, Leucadia and Encinitas 101 Main Street, Encinitas Historical Society, the 101 Artist Colony, Paul Ecke Elementary School, the Cardiff Botanical Society, and Friends of the Cardiff Library. Her service includes chairing the 1st Wednesday Music Series and curating art exhibits at the Cardiff Library, keeping the "Book Nook" program open for the community, and participating in the creation of the "Cardiff Kook and His Magic Carpet Ride" book and the "Encinitas Our History and People" book.

The Senior Citizen of the Year Award celebrates "people who have contributed to the city as a senior citizen role model." The awards program is presented by the city's Senior Citizen Commission, in partnership with the Encinitas Rotary Club.

Hays will be honored at the May 24 Encinitas City Council meeting. She will receive a personal award and her name will be listed on a perpetual plaque housed at the Encinitas Senior Center. Additionally, she will be recognized at the May 24 Encinitas Rotary meeting and invited to participate in the Encinitas Holiday Parade in December.
