Encinitas Little League's 10-11 All-Stars Set for Tourney

It's not just the Encinitas National Little League 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars that are grabbing all the glory in town.

There's another team that also has claimed District 31 and Section 6 championships and will start play this weekend in the Southern California South Sub-Division playoffs.

The Encinitas Little League 10- and 11-year-old All-Star team, 8-0 so far in tournament action, will play on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Chollas Lake Little League in San Diego.

Manager Trey Brown's squad will meet the winner of Saturday’s game between the San Bernardino County champion and the Riverside County champ in the double elimination tourney that extends through July 28.

The Encinitas Little League 10-11 All-Stars routed Del Mar National 16-1 in the District 31 final to finish 5-0 in district play.They then took care of Vista National 11-1 in the Section 6 final to go 3-0 in section play.

Many of the Encinitas players are veterans of the 2010 Encinitas Little League 9- and 10-year-old team that also earned District 31 and Section 6 titles before losing in the championship round of the Sub-Division tournament, finishing in the top four for all of Southern California last year.

The South Sub-Division winner will face its North counterpart in a best-of-three championship series July 30-Aug. 1, also at Chollas Lake's facility.

That's as far as the 10-11 playoffs go. The Encinitas National 11-12 All-Stars could in addition advance to the Western Region playoffs with a shot at the national and world championship tournament in Williamsport, PA.
