Encinitas Surf Report Dec. 5-6

Small, knee-high SW trickles.

The NW groundswell continues to back off, exposing very weak SW pulses in the knee-high range. The swell is long-period; every now and then a rogue chest-high wave might surprise you.

Continued pattern of offshore winds continues throughout the day.

Tide will be fully drained at 12:30 p.m. at less than 1 foot; high tide tonight is at 6:45 p.m. at 3.5 feet.

There's a full moon at the end of the week so there'll be a radical tide difference between dawn patrol and morning sessions versus afternoons.

Water temp at Moonlight Beach is 57, according to lifeguards.

Sunset tonight: 4:41 p.m.

Look for late afternoon sessions to be slightly more energetic than morning with the incoming tide.

Lines are soft and sectioned right now.

For tomorrow, Tuesday the 6th, this brief SW swell begins to dissipate. Look for 2-3 foot waves at best.
