New Tween Yoga Classes

Iyengar Yoga Center of North County is pleased to introduce Young Teen Yoga (YTY).  Developed specifically for ages 12-15, YTY can be an effective way for young teens to harness their energy and emotions.  Classes are offered from 1:00-2:15 PM every Saturday with the exception of the first Saturday of the month.  The cost is $10 per class beginning Saturday, January 14th.  Pre-registration is available online or by phone.

A recent study by Harvard Medical School suggests yoga may help teens curb anxiety, be more resilient and effectively manage anger and fatigue. “The improvements we observed in resilience and emotion regulation should serve as self-regulatory skills that will not only improve the mental health of these adolescents, but serve to prevent the incidence of mental health problems into adulthood,” said Sat Bir Khalsa, PhD, lead study author.  Just as with adults, yoga helps teens and tweens to relax and center themselves.  Introducing young teens to a non-competitive, non-performance focused physical activity at what can be an awkward age, can help provide and build a positive self-image.

YTY is taught by Deanna Cramer, a teacher with over 15 years experience in the academic environment and Iyengar yoga practitioner for nearly a decade.  Cramer also teaches the Kids Yoga program designed for children ages 8-11.
