The City of Encinitas Arts Division will present Beverly
Hills Auditions (BHA) winning pianist Somang Jeagal in concert on Friday, May
16, 2014, 7:30pm at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive, Encinitas, CA
92024. The performance is part of the Music by the Sea concert series, tickets
are $13.
Mr. Jeagal is the Grand Prize winner of the Korea Music Foundation
Competition and the First Prize winner of the Asia Pacific Young Artist
Competition. “Somang is a magical pianist,” said Laura Schmieder, BHA Artistic
Director. He will perform J S. Bach’s Prelude
and Fugue no.16 in G Minor, BWV 885 from The Well Tempered Clavier Book
2; Joseph Haydn, Sonata No. 62 in
E-flat Major, Hob.XVI:52, Allegro, Adagio, Finale Presto; Lowell
Liebermann’s Gargoyles Op. 29; and
Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Sonata No. 2 in
B-flat Minor Op. 36, Allegro agitato, Non Allegro–Lento, L'istesso
tempo–Allegro molto.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Daegu, South Korea in 1983, Somang
Jeagal studied at Seoul Arts High School, followed by graduation with the
highest honors from Seoul National University with Bachelor and Master of Music
degrees. Winner of several national as well as international competitions,
Somang is a recipient of a Grand Prize at the Korea Music Foundation
Competition and First Prize at the Asia-Pacific Young Artist Competition.
Somang has performed at leading international music festivals and concert
series, including Salzburger Schloss Konzerte in Austria, touring
Australia and New Zealand (Sydney, Canberra, Wellington, and Auckland) as
part of the KUMHO Virtuosi Trio Concert Series, and he was featured in US Tour
Concerts (New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Atlanta,
Minneapolis, and Toronto) of the US Seoul National University Alumni. Somang continues to broaden his musical aspirations by
participating in master classes with eminent concert pianists such as Leon
Fleisher and John O'Connor. Currently, he is working with Professor Kevin
Fitz-Gerald in the Artist Diploma Program at the USC Thornton School of
Music.

ABOUT THE BEVERLY HILLS AUDITIONS
Under the Artistic Direction of Laura Schmieder, more than 100
local and international artists are pre-selected to participate every April in
the annual Beverly Hills Auditions. Nine artists/ensembles are selected and
presented monthly, September through June, in three different concert settings.
On Friday evenings in the Music by The Sea recital series in the beautiful Encinitas
Library with its expansive view of the Pacific Ocean, presented by the City of
Encinitas Arts Division; on Saturdays in The Interludes recital series in
the acoustically superb sanctuary of First Lutheran Church, Torrance; and from
January through June on Sunday afternoons in Beverly Hills' Music In The Mansion recital
series in the historic Greystone Mansion.
