K5 Surf Contest Entertains Weekend Beachgoers

Local talent displays progressive surfing at annual contest.

Memorial Day weekend presented a great chance to view some local surfing talent at the D Street break. Encinitas' held its Fourth Annual K5 Pro/Am Surf Klassic surf contest on Saturday with large stormy surf and plenty of action.

With swell in the water and crowds on the beach, the contest was a great spectacle for beachgoers in Encinitas. Not only was the event a great place to catch some sun and see local talent, it also came complete with sand-eating kids (see photos), who provided plenty of entertainment during the slower portions of the contest.

Thanks to K5, the contest's four finalists were awarded cash. Although many of local surfers had unfortunate early round losses, one—Austin Ware—made it into a second-place finish. Spencer Regan from Santa Barbara took top honors, while Travis Beckmann and Chase Wilson finished in third and fourth places, respectively.
