LCC Boys Volleyball Team Plays for Title on Saturday

The Mavericks, now looking to dominate in Division II, will take on Westview at Canyon Crest Academy.

With a 3-0 sweep of San Marcos in Wednesday's semifinal round, the top-seeded La Costa Canyon boys volleyball team earned a berth in the San Diego Section Division II championship game on Saturday. The Mavericks will face second-seeded Westview at 3 p.m. at Canyon Crest Academy.

La Costa Canyon will compete for the Division II title for the first time, moving down from Division I, where the Mavericks have dominated since 1997, winning 11 of the 14 championships since then and finishing second another time. Coach Mark Brubaker's team captured the last three championships and six of the last seven in Division I.

In the semis against San Marcos, Chris Morris (12 kills) and Westy McQueen (9) led the way as the Mavs won in straight sets, 25-17, 25-22, 25-18. Chris Morris had seven blocks and Luke Bausback added four as LCC improved its record to 23-7.
