LCC’s Fahy Wins at Foot Locker West Regional

cross country standout Darren Fahy outran the field to finish first Saturday morning at the West Regional of the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

Tha Maverick senior, who won the Division II boys race at the CIF state cross country championships in Fresno last weekend, edged Nathan Weitz of Spokane, Wash., by a second, running the 5-kilometer course in 15:29.

The West Region race featured athletes from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Runners who earn a top-10 finish in each of the four regional events earn a spot in the national championship race, which will be held next Saturday at Morley Field in Balboa Park. Fahy also qualified for the Foot Locker national final last December as a junior, finishing 30th.
