Lifeguards Rescue Man Off Cardiff State Beach
The rescue was performed at about 9:48 a.m. Thursday, according to Encinitas fire Marshal Anita Pupping.

ENCINITAS, CA: A man was rushed to a local hospital Thursday morning after he was rescued from ocean waters off Cardiff State Beach.
According to the city of Encinitas Fire and Marine Safety Department, the man, whose age and identity were not disclosed, was about 150 yards off shore when bystanders began performing CPR on him.
Lifeguards with the city of Encinitas and the California State Parks System responded at about 9:48 a.m. and performed a water rescue, bringing the man to shore.

The man was then taken to nearby Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.
The circumstances that led to the rescue were not immediately clear at publication time.

An investigation of the water emergency was being handled by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, along with peace officers with California State Parks, according to Encinitas fire Marshal Anita Pupping.
"Encinitas Fire and Marine Safety would like to remind beachgoers to never swim alone and to swim near a lifeguard," Pupping said.
