Lobsta! Lobsta! Read all about it!

Lobster West thrills East Coast transplants with their signature rolls and, yes, Maine Lobster.

All of you East Coast transplants can rejoice. A New England style restaurant is thriving in Encinitas and bringing us the distinct flavors that we just can’t get out here in San Diego. I’m talking about Lobster Rolls, bisque and chowder, whoopie pies, Maine soda, and so much more.

Owners Kim Locker and Chad Taggert (also brother and sister) are East Coast transplants and just couldn’t find their favorite foods that they snacked on as children in New Jersey, Cape Cod, and Maine. After being in San Diego for over 6 years, they decided to open their very first restaurant to serve up what they so desperately missed.

Encinitas is a perfect healthy, open-minded location for this relaxed and family friendly restaurant. Lobster West participates in most of the events put on by the city and does fundraisers at the local schools. If you visit Encinitas, look out for Mr. Johnny Claw on Moonlight Beach handing out lobster claws.

“Opening this restaurant has been a crazy adventure. It started as a fantasy. We love people and food. Plus we love being together as a family,” Kim tells me. Kim and Chad’s mom is a big supporter of Lobster West, even providing some of the family recipes that are offered on the menu.

Kim is also quick to point out that it is so rewarding seeing the same faces come in time and time again. “People recognize that we never skimp on quality. We guarantee that all of our lobster is sustainable, no corners are cut. Chad has even been on the lobster boats.”

I knew they sourced their lobster from Maine. But what about their other products like their rolls and desserts?

“We use as many local San Diego businesses as we can. Our desserts come from Sweet Cheeks Baking Company, our bread is dropped off every morning from a local bakery, and our veggies all come from a local farm. We also serve local craft beers as well as some beer from Maine.” They have made the conscious decision to pay more for top quality products. That’s why you won’t be getting a lobster roll for $3. You are getting the best of the best from San Diego and Maine.
