90-Year-Old Man Accused Of Stabbing Wife In Encinitas

ENCINITAS, CA — A 90-year-old man was arrested accused of stabbing his wife during an argument at their home in northern San Diego County.

The domestic assault was reported shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday at the home in the 1000 block of C Street in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"Deputies with the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded after a neighbor called 911 about a woman who came to the door with visible injuries asking for help," sheriff's Sgt. Marcello Orsini said. "During the initial investigation it was determined a husband and wife were having an argument and it turned physical. The husband then stabbed his wife with a knife."

The 82-year-old woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of stab wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening wounds, Orsini said.

Deputies arrested her husband, Clark Sandknop, who turned 90 on Tuesday, on suspicion of attempted murder and elder abuse, according to the department. Sandknop, who was also treated at a hospital for minor injuries, was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
