Man Fatally Struck By Freight Train In Encinitas

The deadly collision happened near the intersection of Vulcan Avenue and D Street, authorities said.

ENCINITAS, CA — A man was hit and killed by a freight train late Saturday night in Encinitas, authorities said.

The deadly collision happened around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Vulcan Avenue and D Street, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The man was hit by a southbound BNSF Railway freight train, sheriff's Sgt. Jason King said. He died at the scene.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the man and determine the cause and manner of his death, King said.
