Man Killed By Amtrak Train In North County

The 57-year-old walked onto tracks and was struck by a southbound train in Encinitas, officials said.

ENCINITAS, CA – A 57-year-old man was struck and killed Tuesday evening by an Amtrak train in Encinitas.

The collision occurred about 7:50 p.m. on the railroad tracks near mile post marker 238.4 when the man walked into the middle of the tracks and was struck by a southbound train traveling at approximately 57 mph, according to Deputy T. Eikermann of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The man was struck by the train and pronounced dead at the scene, Eikermann said.

The name of the victim was not released.
