Police are seeking the public's help to find a driver who fatally struck a pedestrian, authorities said.

ENCINITAS, CA — Authorities are seeking the public’s help after a pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Encinitas, police said.

Emergency personnel responded around 12:30 a.m. Sunday to the scene on Coast Highway 101 at Encinitas Boulevard, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A vehicle traveling west on Encinitas Boulevard approaching the highway struck a man walking north across the boulevard, police said, adding the driver continued west onto West B Street, fleeing the area. The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital with major injuries and was later pronounced dead, according to police.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark sedan or van with damage to the front driver’s side, possibly a Chrysler or Dodge, police said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 760-966-3500 or 858-565-5200.
