Man Arrested In Stabbing At Encinitas Home Depot

The suspect was later arrested in Carlsbad.

ENCINITAS, CA — A man stabbed another person at a store over the weekend in Encinitas, authorities said.

The stabbing happened at about 10 a.m. Saturday at the Home Depot on El Camino Real in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect, identified as Hernan Padilla, "attempted to leave without paying for items, prompting three bystanders to intervene," Sgt. Giovani Pantoja said.

Padilla brandished a knife, stabbed one bystander and then fled the store, Pantoja said.

Deputies arrived and applied a tourniquet to the injured person's leg. The victim was taken to a hospital.

Authorities established a perimeter and Padilla was later taken into custody in the 7900 block of Anillo Way in Carlsbad, Pantoja said.

Padilla was treated for injuries after attempting to evade deputies, Pantoja said. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
