Mayor Barth and Wyland Foundation Challenge Encinitas Residents to Get Water-Wise this Earth Month
Encinitas Mayor Teresa Barth is challenging local residents to once again conserve water, save energy and reduce pollution as part of a national competition throughout Earth Month (April 1-30).
The National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation presented by the Wyland Foundation (started by famed environmental artist Wyland) is a friendly competition among mayors held every April, to see who can inspire the most residents to make online pledges to conserve at www.mywaterpledge.com. This year, a new site for kids was also unveiled, www.mywaterpledge.com/students, featuring a series of animated public service announcements, educational tools and other resources to encourage teachers and students to also work together to help their cities win. At the end of the month, the city with the most pledges wins, and residents of the winning city will also be eligible to receive more than 300 eco-friendly prizes, including a Toyota Prius Plug-in.
Encinitas placed second in the challenge last year and is competing again this year against San Diego and La Mesa mayors locally as well as many others nationwide. Log onto www.mywaterpledge.com to learn more and make your pledge this Earth Month!
