Missing Man With Dementia Reunited With Family In Encinitas

Dean Works, 91, left his home in his Lexus SUV late Saturday afternoon and was later reported missing.

ENCINITAS, CA – An 81-year-old man with dementia who went missing in the Encinitas/Rancho Santa Fe area was found safe by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer a day later and reunited with his family, authorities said.

Dean Works left his home in his Lexus SUV late Saturday afternoon and was later reported missing. He did not take a cellphone, identification, cash or credit cards, according to the sheriff's department.

He remained missing until late Sunday afternoon when he was spotted by a Customs and Border Protection officer. Authorities did not account for his whereabouts while missing.

Sheriff's officials said in a statement that Works was found in good heath and was reunited with his family in Encinitas.
