Murder-Suicide Ruled in 3 Rancho Santa Fe Deaths

A 52-year-old woman killed her 15-year-old niece and a 56-year-old family friend before killing herself.

San Diego, CA — Authorities on Friday revealed the identities of two women and a teen girl found dead in a Rancho Santa Fe home this week, and ruled their deaths murder-suicide.

San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Nelson identified the victims as Hannah Arya, 15, Ihnwon Mia Shin, 56, and Sayeh Amini, 52.

Nelson said the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office completed the autopsies related to the
investigation and ruled that Hannah and Shin were killed by "multiple sharp force injuries," while Amini committed suicide in the same manner.

The three were discovered stabbed to death around noon on Monday at 17108 Via de la Valle in the upscale North County San Diego community.

Authorities responded after receiving a call about possible child abuse at the residence.

When no one answered the door, deputies began searching the outside of the home and saw through a window a woman lying on the floor. They forced entry and determined the woman was dead. In a further search of the house, they came upon the bodies of the other two victims.

Hannah was the daughter of the homeowner, Michael Arya, who died of cancer in April, and Amini was Michael's sister.

Authorities have declined to discuss a possible motive for the killings, but an attorney for the family of Amini and her niece told reporters that Amini had become delusional and suicidal following Michael's death.

Friends of the Arya family identified Shin as a Los Angeles real estate broker who had known Michael and his daughter for many years.
