Neighbor Helps Rescue Encinitas Family From Burning House: Report

The White family of Encinitas narrowly escaped their burning house Monday, out of which mother Jody White ran a clothing business.

ENCINITAS, CA — An Encinitas family has lost their home and nearly their lives following a Monday morning fire, CBS8 reported.

At about 2:30 Monday morning, a neighbor of the White family awoke to the sound of breaking glass. Once he realized the home was on fire, he ran outside naked to help, according to CBS8. He opened the door, helped find a missing young boy, and then ran into the backyard to help find their dog.

A neighbor told CBS that he kicked open the back fence and gate so the whole family, including their dog, can escape.

CBS reposted footage from the ordeal that was caught by a neighbor’s Ring camera.

Though everyone made it out alive, the home was completely destroyed. According to a GoFundMe page set up by a neighbor, the loss is particularly devastating because the White family was relying on the income from Jody’s small sustainable clothing business, All That Apparel, which she ran out of the house.

“They have 3 kids and now only have what they were wearing at 2:45 a.m. - pajamas, no shoes or socks,” the page says. “They have been incredibly active in the community, particularly with Jody helping to create Encinitas 4 Equality. We are asking our community to help support this amazing family in what is the most challenging time of their lives. They could use help in getting some basic necessities and to keep them afloat while they figure out how to move forward.”

As of Wednesday, the family has raised $46,634 of a $100,000 goal.
