Plant a Tree at the City of Encinitas Arbor Day 2016 Celebration

The community of Olivenhain in Encinitas is hosting a tree-planting event on April 23rd to celebrate Arbor Day.

On April 23rd 2016, the City of Encinitas will be hosting the 5th Annual Encinitas Tree City USA Arbor Day 2016 Celebration and free tree planting event in Olivenhain. This event celebrates Arbor Day, Encinitas’ Tree City USA accreditation, and provides the community with a volunteer opportunity to help protect the local environment. The event will be held from 8:30 am – 11:30 am at 3120 Circa de Tierra Encinitas, CA 92024.

During the celebration, participants will gather into groups and plant 11 trees per group alongside professional arborists. The arborists will be teaching participants about identifying trees, planting the right tree in the right place, and root systems. Sponsors of the event will be offering light refreshments, informational booths, giveaways and drawings. The 5th Annual Encinitas Tree City USA sponsors include SDG&E, West Coast Arborist, The Wishing Tree Company, Cal Fire, Davey Tree Services, Davey Resource Group, and Western ECI. Participants are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and hats to the event for protection.

The City of Encinitas maintains more than 13,000 trees as part of its Urban Forest Management Program. For the past 5 years, the Arbor Day Foundation has honored Encinitas with its “Tree City USA” designation. This is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management in over 3,400 accredited cities and towns that are home to 135 million people across America.

In America, Arbor Day is a tradition dating back to April 1872 when 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska. Trees are a critically important part of sustainability and protecting the environment. They absorb storm water runoff that can harm our coastline, fight climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, reduce energy usage by providing natural shade, and beautify streets and parks.
