Recognize This Man? He Is Wanted for an Encinitas Vehicle Burglary

The victim, who accidentally left her garage door open, witnessed the alleged break-in taking place.

ENCINITAS, CA — Thanks to an alert an Encinitas woman received on her cellphone from the motion sensor alarm in her garage, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department North Coastal Station has surveillance images of a man suspected of taking a wallet from the center console of her car.

According to sheriff's investigators, the burglary occurred just before midnight on Monday, Aug. 15 at a residence in the 1700 block of Edgefield Lane. The victim, who accidentally left her garage door open, witnessed her car being broken into in her garage.

Surveillance images show an unknown man casing the unlocked car, then taking the wallet. The victim confronted the suspect and yelled for help, which caused him to drop the wallet and run away.

No one was hurt in the incident, according to sheriff's officials.

Members of the public are asked to view the surveillance images to see if they know the suspect, who was described as a 30- to 45-year-old white man who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He has a beard and goatee and was last seen wearing a green sweatshirt and jeans.
