San Diego County Sheriff's Department: Shooting In Ramona - UPDATE

On 10/03/2021, at approximately 1114 hours, Santee Deputies responded to Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group in Santee for a 2-year-old female toddler with a gunshot wound to the leg. After a preliminary investigation, it was learned the incident occurred at 24242 Sargent Rd in Ramona. The mother had driven the toddler to the hospital in Santee for treatment. Ramona Detectives were investigating the circumstance that led up to the child being shot. The injury did not appear to be life threatening and there were no outstanding suspects.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed the toddler's injuries were the results of negligent handling of a handgun by residents inside the residence.  Ramona Detectives arrested Roman Estrada (DOB: 11/04/2002) for the negligent discharge of a firearm and child endangerment.  Roman was booked into custody at the San Diego Central Jail.  Victoria Tejeda (DOB: 11/18/2000) was arrested for charges of child endangerment.  Victoria was booked into custody at the Las Colinas Detention Facility.  There are no outstanding suspects.
