San Dieguito Heritage Museum hosts weekly family art activity

Did you know that Encinitas helped make the Poinsettia the symbol of the holidays?

Saturdays and Sundays throughout December, noon to 4pm, San Dieguito Heritage Museum, 450 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas. Free.
In this month’s Families Making History Together program at the Museum, we will focus on the history of the poinsettia. This plant is originally from Central America, but soon gained popularity as a festive symbol during the holiday season. Poinsettias have a long history in the Encinitas area. In fact, at one time just about every poinsettia plant in the United States began its early life here in the greenhouses and fields of the Paul Ecke family on Saxony Drive. Encinitas became known nationwide as the “Poinsettia Capital.” So make your way down to the museum this weekend, and craft your very own paper poinsettia ornament to honor this very special Encinitas tradition!
